What kind of LARP are you looking for? There are two distinct types - Live Combat and Theatre Style. Theatre Style encompasses many different game forms - from Murder Mysteries to Vampire games. Live Combat games come in three different flavors; Battlegames (the oldest form; mostly about swinging foam and kicking butt); Line Course games (imagine a team-based LARP that plays like Dungeon and Dragons); and World Course games (Players have free will, no real permanent teams, lots of player vs. player drama and conflict - but also a world that revolves around the players (like the Line Course, they have NPCs to play the parts of working stiffs of the world, the traders, the ruling nobles, and of course the monsters :) There are two World Course Live Combat LARPs in that general area, a bit south of you, near San Jose. The first is Realms of Conflict - we actually (as the LARP Alliance) run a road trip up there from Los Angeles once a month. Player base is currently around 50; npc base fluctuates from 30-50. Weekend-long, episodic story-arc (continues where it left of, month to month). Talk to me if you'd like more information about this game. There is also Alliance LARP (not associated with LARP Alliance :); they also run weekend long campaign-style games and use Camp Cutter primarily. Dagorhir and Belegarth (more Battlegames) are near you as well; Christian might know where they are - or you can go to their main websites and track down local Chapters.
