Sorry for the long delay in between posts. I've been busy and kinda in a funk on what to post. Thing is... since many of us LARP all ready and are interested in our own perspective LARPs, it's hard to realy share anything I think is worthwhile. Why bother promoting the events I goto, if people here are loyal to their own larps they goto? Also... there hasn't been much in the way of innovation of larping rules, gear, and other stuff that I think (in my opinion), most folks would care about.
Sure, I could give status updates... but I feel this blog and discussion about LARPing should only post or have things worth of interest to our community as a whole.
I want my posts to share good ideas and to help people in our hobby. I want to share tips about how to make things better. Unfortunately, for me... as someone who doesn't build/make his own gear, or someone who doesn't run his own larp... I really don't have much to contribute.
So... what to really say and do???

Howdy folks...
It's been a while since I last posted. Knight Realms had fun (if cold) April 2010 event, a surprisingly cold May 2010 event, and even a 2ndary May 2010 for an ALTERNATE story/plot. Pictures will be up soon and I hope to post them.
Now that the weather is warming up (or supposedly warming up as the Northeast coast has been facing some unseasonably cool/cold weather), the prime time/peak season of LARPing is coming. Many larps should be seeing an increase in event population, action, and hopefully sales.
With the warmer weather also comes changes in costuming, make-up (how to keep it on when you get sweaty), and for the plot people, how to use the camps you have in the best way possible when you have over-grown foliage.
So... if anyone wants to share cool ideas, fun stories, and recruiting news... please go ahead and share.

Howdy All,
This past weekend, April 9th through the 11th... in White Haven, Pennsylvania... Knight Realms held an event. Though it was very cold Friday night, the weather soon warmed up and it made for a fun weekend. Another Knight Realms event will be held on May 7th through the 9th (Mother's Day weekend). It will be at the same camp site. For more information, goto www.knightrealms.com and check out our forums.
Incendently, the March 2010 Knight Realms pictures are up and they look great.
With the changing of the season (and my new job and bonus income), I have recently placed in an order with Ravenswood Leather for a new Avatar Jerkin. Check out the designs and the new stuff they have on www.ravenswoodleather.com. I highly recommend them and on their facebook page, they even show a leather vesion of the old WW2 Captain America costume they made. Nice.
Along with my new jerkin, I ordered a new bastard sword from Calimacil. I got it at 15% off due to Knight Realms enjoying a discount with them. They also have some new weapons. Goto www.calimacil.com to check out their stuff, sign up for their monthly give away contest, and see about getting that 15% off.
I know it sounds like I'm some sort of marketting/promoting guy for these places... but with the eceonomy the way it is, and how many small independent businesses need help (much like larps and larp-specific stores)... have a customer give props can only be a good thing.
I see many folks here promoting thier larps, needing people, players, and staff... it would not be long until those who use thier hobby craft, skills, and such need to find a way to keep affording to play. Just like the young lady who can sew/stitch and offers to help make garb... these companies are made up of people like that who formed the business to help pay for what they love and working in what they love.
So... c'mon folks... the weather's warming up... camps are opening, spots need to be filled, adn here's to a new season of fun in the sun/woods/camps/wilds/basements/alleys/places we go.

Hey all,
April 9th through the 11th is the April 2010 Knight Realms event in White Haven, Pennsylvania. Please visit www.knightrealms.com for more information and visit the forums.
For the past few months, my LARP has been asking about finding quality leatherworkers and costuming. I gave my .02 cents and spoke about Ravenswood. I then immediately heard some negative feedback.
After showing the thread to them, they took care of the issues and gave me a $50 gift certificate. Also, with showing them the new website and such, many folks in my larp, Knight Realms, bought more items from them. Now everything is good. So... when folks think that there's nothing you can do about costuming or how word of mouth works... I can personally testify that groups like Ravenswood cares a lot of their reputation and will work with folks to fix things and get you the costumes you want/need.
Also, word of mouth does a lot for business and I am sure that my endorsement and word has helped Ravenswood increase it's East Coast sales by a large percent. So... by endorsing small businesses in a niche market like ours (LARPers), can help and make a huge difference. Look for the larper label folks... :)
Well, it's the latter part of March and the East Coast is now seeing a definate thawing in temperature. Which means fair weather is coming and LARPing population is going to see an increase. Now is the time to market, advertise, and spread the word about your LARPs. So go ahead folks...
Well thats it... I hope you all have a great Spring and may you all LARP safely.

Just an FYI to folks, Swords of Honor has a discount code of "naghaid10" for their archery gear. It will take 10% off your purchase of archery gear. Another discount code is "KanaraK", which is also for 10% off.
7 Meadow Archery website is offering 20% discount with the code "20% off" in their "Special Instructions" section.
Enjoy and I hope these codes help in your shopping and saving money for LARP.

The first weekend of February, the 5th through 7th... there will be the 2nd Knight Realms event of the year 2010. It will take place in Sparta, New Jersey at the campground known as Camp Sacajawea. Please goto www.knightrealms.com for more details.
In other larp news, I have been going over various ideas for modifying household items, toys, and other things to make them more LARP friendly. Depending on your LARP, some simple paint schemes, modifications, and work can turn a small, cheap item into a great piece of LARP gear.
For those looking for crossbows, a 25lb child's bow is available at this www.addictedtoarchery.com/horton-eagle-y... Simply repaint it and it should be good. For those looking for a crossbow pistol for roguish or Drow-like theme... theres a child dart crossbow (only 12 lbs) available at www.addictedtoarchery.com/barnett-bandit... Just cut off the plastic stock, paint it whatever color you want, and replace the darts with something more IG looking. Check with your LARP about rules regarding archery and crossbows.
If you are looking for a Ghillie suit or some kind of outfit to blend in the with outdoors to to play as costuming for a swamp monster/nature spirit... there are tons of old army/navy/military surplus and hunting stores that offer that kind of camo gear. If you don't want to spend the money on those... try taking an old hooded sweatsuit, some string mop heads, leaves, sticks, some green, brown, white, and black spray paint. Attach the string mop heads to the suit with stitches or staples/tape/glue. Vary up the length of the strings, along with the layers and density. After a while, spray paint the entire suit in a camo effect. Voila... your own camo ghillie suit. Just make sure to spray it well and be careful of how you layers the strings. Look at pictures of other professional camo suits and try to use that as a model.
As for special effects and lighting, I found that deep sea divers or night divers, along with maritime ships will use special gear that lights up at night. There are special ropes use by ships at night to help with mooring and nighttime activities. These ropes (found www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayit...) are charged by natural light or room light, and will keep glowing for up to 6 hours. So put it out during the day to soak up UV light and at night, use it to illuminate an area by acting as a glowing rope border. The rope is strong, weather resistant, and can perform a variety of roles.
Another neat bit of gear can be found among motorhome/RV stores. An RV cover (like shop.coversuperstore.com/index.cfm?fusea...) is setup to drape over a large RV or motorhome. These bland grey tarps have sections for doors or windows or whatever pieces of the unit the user wants to have open. As such, they make great mini-forts, buildings, or whatever you need. Just paint the outside to look more IG, and you can setup these tarps/covers as giant tents. Paint the outside to look whatever you desire.
Well, those are jsut some ideas I came up with. I hope they do you all well and you enjoy them. See you at the Feb event I hope.
