I added a few more cosplay and event pictures to my gallery, notably some of my wedding pictures.
Did you have LARP at your wedding? We did, and we had a blast. The priest grabbed his vestments and the boffer shovel and started turning Undead. The best man was packing a red rubber bullet gun, and the ring-bearer and the flower girls found the weapons bag and started brawling on the dance-floor while the rest of us boogied to Dead Man's Party by Oingo Boingo.
We had to change halls, got kicked out of the second floor, and ended the game with a nigh epic PVP battle which forced PCs and NPCs to pick sides... None of which was anticipated!
The GM tells me 'Come up with random encounters' so I grab a white cloak, a bag, and some plastic bones and start playing a poltergeist. Sometimes I take damage, othertimes I just ignore it.
Then I come back around and act completely different and clean up the bones.
Then I go back to throwing them. They eventually figured out there were differences in the ghosts... and to help them the poltergeist got a pair of nasty red claw-hands and started cackling as it threw things. I chased one girl around the hallways and then we started playing cat and mouse. It was FUN.
The epic PVP happened while Robin and I were cleaning; my cousin Izabela runs in saying "I need my swords, there's a fight." So I peek out and sure enough, battle. I see they're trying to kill one of the other NPCs... one that MY NPC works for. So I throw her shirt and hat on and join the fray, defending him and trying to talk sense into people.
The fight moves through the parking lot back towards the buildings and into the planters, where someone got ganked. My NPC chose to side with the other NPCs because they were from her own world and some of them were high ranked, others were members of her Guild. A few of the Pcs joined us for various reasons, and the game ended with us getting the rest of the PCs to leave for their own world and us licking our wounds.
Where will this go? Will my reoccuring NPC Jess be able to rejoin the PCs again? Will they trust her? Will she trust them? Who knows! Only time will tell.
My thanks to those of you who HAVE stopped by! It seems our Live Action RPG is working out well and adding a much desired dimention to the Faire.
We've had children play. We've had families play. We've had drunk women play... EVERYONE seems to walk away happy and having achieved something. We really HAVE turned the Faire into a giant playground.
If we go next year, there will be changes! New quests, new levels, a new storyline to play through in addition to the existing.
Now it's up to the Company. They need to work out a deal with us that makes everyone happy before this will continue... but I hope it does!
Vivat RenQuest *Though I like Elizabeathan Adventures FAR FAR BETTER!*
Tomorrow is the premier of "RenQuest Adventure" or whatever the hell the corporation is making us title our game. I personally prefer "FaireQuest" just because it sounds prettier...
Don't start me on the corporation. UGH.
We've moved the Inn to a more central location well well away from the smokers. It now faces the water and there's no fancy leatherwork to distract me. We're by the Fencing Booth before Games Row.
If you come to Faire, we can probably get you a game for free. We're going to let the first few players go through with full props and accessories at no charge. You get a spiffy commemorative badge for your efforts and possibly more cool swag once we get things fully in gear.
It's only running this weekend as a test. If it proves well, we'll press forward and go the length of the run.
PLEASE let this work. It's a great way to mainstream LARP and give people a kickass environment to game in.
If you want to bring a group or run a game through our lovely private Inn area, PLEASE let me know. We can find a way to make it work.
