Its been nearly 3 and half years since I started NERO. That isn't very long in terms of the time people have been larping or even the time people have known each other and been friends. But to me, it was a life time of amazing LARPing.
Over the last 4 years or so for me, I've changed a lot. I won't forget driving 4 hours back and forth to come to day games at West, or being slapped around, stepped on or batted with boffers. It was a great run, even if for me it had only just begun.
But apart from Game, I came away with a lot of memories, some great, some bad, but all undeniably written into my life such that they will go on to inspire things I do later perhaps. I've come away with many new friends, all of which go far beyond the confines of NERO. It was the beginning for many things; friendships and stories, but it was not the end.
I have too many fond memories to list here, to many awesome moments, mods and scenes. And each of them will always have a place over dinner or a late night mojito. Thats what really matters in the end. They might never come back, but what we have can never be taken away either.
What West did, despite everything was the best, because it was without regard to anything but the story itself. NERO West wasn't all things to all people, but there were a lot of things that they did better than anyone else.
I've lost friends and made friends. I've come out with friends who I now consider my closest in my life. Each an important milestone in life. Though not necessarily linked to West- but often through West. I tie West in with so many experience I know I will miss what could be, but always cherish what was.
As my first LARP, it was the best and will stay that way probably for the rest of my life. Here is to everyone who ever ran it, played in it and created a memorable experience that will hopefully continue to have ripples in people's lives.
