I use to do live action role playing with real swords as a kid. Now my kids are interested in the D&D world, but have been stuck indoors on their PCs. A friend at work told me about Knights and Nobles and Rogues and Kids. It was a perfect blend of role playing, safe sword play, no alcohol or foul language and in the safe confines of a Boy Scout camp to boot! So, I dragged out my old chest of stuff and my 27year old wool cloak and introduced my three children to the wonderful world of LARP!
The picture posted of me is of a NPC character I play called Sir Greggor Chichak. I welcomed the opportunity to play my great, great, great.... grandfather. Sir Greggor Chichak, knighted 1240AD and was part of the third crusades and settled in the area now known as Croatia. After the war he became a teacher and used a metal yard stick to chop off the ear of a mouthy student! Does anyone need math or reading and writing lessons from my character?
My in game character name is Tycho after Tycho Brahe the 16th century astronomer. I enjoy astronomy, but haven't had much time for it in the past. Now I will combine LARPing in the back and very dark woods with my favorite hobby of astronomy. Even better, I am building several astronomical instruments that were used in the late 16th and 17th centuries. The refractor telescope, sextant, astrolabe and quadrant will be used in an observatory I plan to build next spring. That is why my favorite Psalm is 19:1
-(Psa 19:1 NIV)The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. - King David
